ACT learner licence rules
Your learner period and supervised hours depend on your age when your ACT learner licence was issued.
Learner requirements
What you need depends on your age when your ACT learner licence was issued.
| Age when your learner licence was issued | Minimum learner period | Supervised driving | Usually starts on |
|---|---|---|---|
| Under 25 | 12 months | 100 hours, 10 at night | PP1, red Ps |
| 25 or over | 6 months | 50 hours, 5 at night | PP2, green Ps |
Requirements can change, so always confirm on the ACT Government pages. Progressive ACT Driving School is an independent business and is not Access Canberra.
Beyond the hours
Logging the time doesn’t mean you can drive independently. Practise in varied conditions: traffic levels, weather, road types, parking and night driving.
An instructor introduces and refines techniques; regular supervised practice makes them consistent. Keep your logbook accurate and ask Access Canberra if unsure what counts.
A lesson gives you structured feedback and a plan for your next skill.
