Complete the learner process and keep your licence current before driving.
2
Learn each driving skill
Lessons cover vehicle control, observation, road positioning, intersections, traffic management and the other required competencies.
3
Practise between lessons
Supervised private practice turns a new technique into a consistent habit.
4
Demonstrate competency
Your instructor signs off a skill once you perform it safely and consistently, not after a set number of lessons.
5
Complete the licence requirements
You still need the learner period, supervised hours and the Hazard Perception Test.
Common questions
How many lessons will I need?
There’s no single number. Prior practice, confidence, how often you drive and consistency all affect progress. After an initial lesson, your instructor can give you a much better idea.
Logbook or the one-off test?
The logbook route assesses competencies progressively with an accredited instructor. The one-off practical driving assessment is a separate government test. Check the official requirements before you choose.
